HEALTH experts allayed fears of a spread of the more infectious variant of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) after 16 new cases were reported in the northern part of the Philippines.

The 12 cases, according to the Department of Health (DoH), were reported in Bontoc, Mountain Province; two from returning overseas Filipinos from Lebanon; and locally-acquired cases in La Trinidad, Benguet and Calamba City, Laguna, where both patients have no known travel histories.
