The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has required the mandatory planting of trees and mangroves as a new norm in granting contracts, accreditation and permits to mitigate the impact of climate change.

PPA General Manager Jay Daniel R. Santiago said the mandatory tree planting before granting contracts was in compliance with the Republic Act 9729 otherwise known as the ‘Climate Change Act of 2009” and it will take effect on February 2.
