PAGADIAN CITY: Close to P100 million worth of farm machinery was allocated to some 50 cooperative associations from 19 municipalities in Zamboanga del Sur last week to help farmers improve and increase work productivity.
The distribution of assorted farm equipment to farmer groups was led by Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary William Dar and executives of the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) at the Megayon Hall, Barangay Dao in this capital city.
In his message to the farmers, Dar said, ˮThe various farming machinery provided to the Agriculture department is part of the governmentʼs efforts, under the leadership of our President Rodrigo Duterte, to increase your yield and income.”
Dar urged the farmers to utilize and maintain the machinery properly.
ˮTogether, let us work towards a food-secure and resilient Philippines with prosperous farmers and fisherfolk,ˮ Dar added.
The DA chief identified the farm equipment distributed as follows: 18 four-wheel tractors, three hand tractors, 10 float-assist tillers, 11 precision seeders, nine walk-behind rice planters, six rice reapers, nine rice combines and three rice threshers.
Zamboanga del Sur Gov. Victor Yu said, “We are very grateful and happy that during the administration of President Duterte, the farmers of our province, which boasts of the biggest rice producing area in [the] Zamboanga Peninsula, have been given full support to increase the production of our staple food.”
