Metro Manila has received nearly 85,000 live hogs from various parts of the country as of Thursday to further augment its supply, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA).
A department report said on Friday that 84,365 live hogs and 507,739 kilograms of carcasses have been transported to the capital.
Of the hogs shipped, Region 4A (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon provinces, or Calabarzon), accounted for 50.33 percent; Region 6 (Western Visayas), 14.12 percent; Region 4B (Mindoro Oriental, Mindoro Occidental, Marinduqe, Romblon and Palawan provinces, or Mimaropa), 10.64 percent; and Region 12 (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani provinces and General Santos City, or Soccsksargen), 9.25 percent.
Of the delivered carcasses, Region 3 (Central Luzon) account for 93.95 percent; Region 5 (Bicol), 4.48 percent; and Region 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula), 1.54 percent.
The report also said 3,958 live hogs and 21,356 kg of carcasses were delivered from various regions to the National Capital Region on Thursday.
“These are expected to arrive tonight in various slaughterhouses in Caloocan, Muntinlupa and Rizal before [their] distribution to public markets in Metro Manila,” it added.
Monitoring by the DA’s Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service showed the prevailing prices of pork kasim in 29 different markets monitored in the capital ranged from P270 to P350; pork liempo, P300 to P380; and whole carcass (sabit-ulo), P230 to P295.
