The Philippines has slapped a temporary ban on imports of domesticated and wild birds from Russia following confirmed outbreaks of the avian flu there.

In a February 26 memorandum, the Department of Agriculture (DA) ordered the ban after the Russian Federation sent a report to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) saying there were outbreaks of the H5N8 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) virus in several areas.
