THE Philippine variant of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) was detected in Central Visayas, according to an expert on infectious diseases.

Dr. Edsel Maurice Salvana, who is also part of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases' Task Force on Emerging Variants, said that the P.3 variant came from the B1128 lineage of the virus, which is the most common line of the SARS-CoV2 (severe acute respiratory system-coronavirus 2) virus, which causes Covid-19.
