Allied forces imposed a cruel blockade, cutting off imports. Prices skyrocketed. Hundreds of thousands of civilians perished.

I have been invited to address you (the UN Security Council) today as the executive director of Oxfam International, an expression of people power that was first launched to stand with the people of Greece to demand their most basic of rights — the right to food — in the midst of conflict.
