AGRICULTURE industry group Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (Sinag) is proposing to the Tariff Commission (TC) an increase on import duties on frozen pork meat products, arguing that importers are steadily making profits while retail prices of prime pork cuts have not gone down.

In a letter dated March 23, 2021 to TC Chairperson Marilou Mendoza, Sinag formally proposed the increase from 30 percent to 40 percent (in quota) and from 40 percent to 44 percent (out quota) of the tariff rate for pork meat (fresh, chilled or frozen).
