THE Department of Agriculture (DA) is set to implement the government’s P600-million swine repopulation program, focusing initially on areas previously affected by the African swine fever (ASF) that are no longer in quarantine and now classified as “pink” and “yellow” zones.

Agriculture Secretary William Dar in a statement expressed relief as the ASF incidence is now at its lowest level since August 2020. He said that as of March 26, 2021, ASF cases totaled 253 compared to 358 cases in January 2021 and 330 cases in February 2021. The highest level was 1,773 cases in August 2020.
