My viber groups have been circulating a brief about Angela Merkel, the first female chancellor of Germany who is stepping down this year after serving four terms since 2005.

Merkel has been No. 1 in Forbes’ 100 Most Powerful Women list for 10 consecutive years now and 14 years overall. Her leadership is marked by steely reserve, and she has capably steered Germany through the financial crisis and back to growth. Her handling of the pandemic has received international approval. According to an October 2020 survey, 75 percent of adults in 14 European countries trust Merkel more than any other leader in the region.
