“JUSTICE must be tempered by mercy.” This is thought to make a case for mercy against the mercilessness of justice. My point is that justice is merciful, and if it were not merciful, it would not be just.

It is Divine Mercy Sunday as I write this and it is good to start by asking about mercy from Mercy Incarnate — and what we discern in his acts of mercy and from his words of mercy should be intelligible even to non-believers!
