KUALA LUMPUR: While the situation in Myanmar worsens with more civilians continuing to be shot by the military, the civilized world essentially also continues to stand by wringing its hands as it is constrained by the very “civilized” global institutional mechanism that is supposed to stop such atrocities.
And while the world is still trying to build a consensus as to how to approach Myanmar in a concerted effort — if such an effort could ever come to be — seasoned observers of international affairs could perhaps reminisce over an even more turbulent world decades ago.
