THE Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) is targeting to procure a total of 5,098 units of farm machineries and distribute these to 1,600 FCAs with an estimated 284,800 farmer-members this year, as part of its mandate under the tarrified rice regime.
Agriculture Secretary William Dar in a statement on Thursday expressed optimism that farmers will be able to reduce the cost of rice production to about P8 to P9 per kilo by the end of the six-year implementation of the Republic Act 11203 or Rice Tariffication Law, thus making the Philippines at par with its counterparts in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
