PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has warned local government officials of facing administrative and criminal charges if they fail to enforce the quarantine rules and prevent a surge in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in their areas of jurisdiction.

In his pre-recorded public address aired on Wednesday, Duterte said he would direct Interior Secretary Eduardo Año to hold mayors and barangay captains liable for any dereliction of duty should they allow mass gatherings, which were prohibited in areas under the strict lockdown in the National Capital Region Plus.
