Why mentors discard Chavacano as teaching medium in lower grade levels

ZAMBOANGA CITY: A few years ago, the Department of Education (DepEd), under its Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTBMLE) module in line with its K to12 program, included Chavacano, together with Tausug and Cebuano, as one of the 12 regional dialects adopted as an instructional medium in Kindergarten and Grades 1, 2 cand 3 in the list of the authorized vernaculars.

However, in compliance with the DepEd's K to 12 program, local public teachers fluent in Tausug who reside in several local coastal villages as well as Cebuano mentors, mostly settlers from adjacent Zamboanga Peninsula and other Mindanao provinces, have no recourse but to drop Chavacano and instead use the native tongue the pupils speak at home.
