KUALA LUMPUR: At the time of writing, Malaysia looks set to enter yet another round of movement control order (MCO), essentially a constructive lockdown, brought about by, well, yet another uptick in the coronavirus pandemic. This third round of nationwide MCO comes in the aftermath of a first round a year ago, when the daily new infection cases were entering in the hundreds, and another round earlier this year, when a few thousand cases were registered each day.

When the number of daily new coronavirus infection cases subsided after the first, rather strict and effectively stay-home round of MCO in Malaysia, people understandably came out of their homes and socialized with each other to rejoice over what they thought was the end of the pandemic. But it was still manageable then.
