Local shares returned to negative territory ahead of the holiday as sentiment was impacted by the MSCI rebalancing and the local detection of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) variant from India.

The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) lost 1.43 percent or 90.43 points to 6,236.40, while the wider All Shares declined by 1.28 percent or 49.96 points to finish at 3,858 on Wednesday.
