JUST when we all thought peace would finally reign after the last election, now comes another brewing storm within the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).

Another surge is coming but unfortunately, this time it’s in RP sports. I don’t know why some people just have to stir up the hornets’ nest. Caught in the controversy is Chairman Steve Hontiveros, the most senior in our group and probably the most popular in international sports circles due to his amiable smiling front. Instead of using his PR connections, especially in Asian sports, the board intends to take him out as chairman of the POC. Recently elected by the General Assembly together with everyone, the board voted to eliminate his position last week, which they claim should follow the norm of the International Olympic Committee, which suggests the irrelevance of two positions. Chairmanship and the Immediate Past President (IPP) positions are not found in the dictionary of the IOC hierarchy.
