WE cannot be driven by arguments about righting historical wrongs as the justification for the present atrocities against the innocent, particularly children. This has to be stressed as we view with horror what is happening in the Middle East, where the conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians has escalated to a level unseen before.

Before, the battle was seen only in rockets and bombs fired by each side to wreak havoc and bring death and destruction on the other and by random political violence usually by Palestinian militias - freedom fighters to the Palestinians but labeled as terrorists by the Israelis - perpetrated against their targets, mostly within Israeli territories but on some occasions, even in other countries. This was the case in the 1972 attack during the summer Olympics in Munich when Israeli athletes were killed and kidnapped by members of the Black September, a Palestinian terrorist group.
