That small rice farmers and small animal raisers are always sacrificed at the secular altar of battling inflation is a given thing. That small farmers and small animal raisers will be thrown under the bus to soothe an imaginary or petty discomfort to the broader society is another given. Screwing small farmers and small animal raisers has been so routine and mainstream that these two marginal agri sectors now deeply believe that the government, whenever it intrudes into their miserable lives, is always out to get them.

In the past, the small people in agriculture with grievances had organized groups to lean on such as during the time they fought for agrarian justice and had leaders like Pedro Abad Santos and Luis Taruc. Then, they were so organized and determined that they almost overthrew the government. This time, it is different. Weak, disorganized and deprived of fiery leadership, these small people just bear up with every bludgeoning from the government and pray to their saint for some reprieve. I know the level of weakness because I belong to the two sectors.
