In the recent bubble tournament held by the Maharalika Pilipinas Basketball League to stage the four-team conference finals a few months ago, several members of the Basilan Steel were tested positive and games were pushed back.
Later on, the league ordered the team's forfeiture, allowing the Davao Occidental Tigers to advance to the national championship and the team went on to win the title by beating the Sa Juan Knights.
