THE House of Representatives Committee on Labor and Employment on Wednesday approved a measure that would pave the way for the creation of an unemployment insurance program in the Philippines "subject to style and amendments."

The substitute measure to House Bills 7028, 7590 and 8229 seeks to provide lost-income protection for workers involuntarily separated from employment as well as unemployment benefits for affected individuals seeking new jobs.
