THIS is the last week of the exhibition being held at the headquarters of the Instituto Cervantes in Madrid, Spain, featuring a generous selection of Philippine literature in Spanish. Most of the books were actually printed in Manila, and they belong today to the distinguished Filipiniana collection of the library of the Instituto Cervantes in Intramuros.

Although it was not mentioned in my article published last April 20, the exhibition came together with the launch of an extraordinary collection of short stories by a female writer from La Carlota, Negros, Adelina Gurrea (1896 to 1971). The book has been edited by the best expert on Gurrea, Dra. Beatriz Álvarez Tardío, from the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid. Again, we find an award-winning author whose name is sadly unknown to most Filipinos mainly because of the lack of translations.
