A short-lived phreatomagmatic (combination of magma and water) eruption occurred at the main crater of the Taal Volcano early Wednesday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Interviewed by The Manila Times, Phivolcs chief Renato Solidum Jr. said the one-minute explosion took place at 5:18 a.m., generating a grayish plume that rose 300 meters before drifting southeast.
