Average electricity rates dropped by 3 percent in the first six months of the year, mostly on the back of lower generation charge, according to Manila Electric Co. (Meralco).

Jose Ronald Valles, first vice president and regulatory management head of Meralco, said the power distributor's retail rates decreased to P7.92 per kilowatt hour (kWh) from the P8.19/kWh registered in the same period a year ago.
