After a more than a one-year hiatus since the pandemic broke out, I have decided to write anew about boxing and sports. One of the reasons that inspired me to continue this column is the world title unification bout between our very own Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and Errol "The Truth" Spence on August 22 (Manila time).

But last Monday, an epic and historical event took place at Tokyo, as weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz won the Philippines' first ever Olympic gold medal from a regular event. And that happened amid the country still facing uncertainty over the coronavirus crisis.
