BUDGET Secretary Wendel Avisado will go on medical leave starting August 2 until August 13 upon the advice of his doctor, Malacañang confirmed on Saturday.
Citing a statement from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), Roque said that Avisado contracted coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) where he was hospitalized for eight days and went under quarantine for "over a month."
"DBM Secretary Wendel E. Avisado is on medical leave from August 02 to 13, 2021 following his recent bout with Covid-19 where he was hospitalized for 8 days and quarantined for over a month and upon the advice of his Doctor to undertake series of examinations as it has been 14 years since undergoing a quadruple open heart bypass," the DMB said.
Undersecretary Tina Rose Marie Canda will serve as DBM officer-in-charge when Avisado goes on leave.
"To ensure that services of the Department remains unhampered, Undersecretary Tina Rose Marie L. Canda will serve as Officer-in-Charge during this period," the DMB said.
"Rest assured that the DBM remains steadfast and committed to its mandate of promoting the efficient and effective management of the national budget to support its budget priorities especially in the midst of the pandemic," it added.
President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to find a source for the financial assistance for residents who will be affected by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) that will be imposed on Metro Manila next month.
"Hihinihingi ko na lang po ay kumpirmasyon pero nakausap ko na si DBM Secretary Wendel Avisado (I'm just waiting for confirmation but I already talked to DBM Secretary Wendel Avisado)," Roque said in a radio interview.
"Sabi niya sa akin hahanapin at hahanapin natin 'yan dahil ang Presidente hindi pumapayag mag-ECQ nang walang ayuda sa mga mamamayan (He told me that we will really look for a source for the cash aid because the President will not agree to an ECQ without cash aid for the residents)," he added.
