Filipino boxer Eumir Marcial secured a bronze medal after his sensational first round knockout win over Arman Darchinyan of Armenia in the men's middleweight quarterfinals on Sunday, August 1 at the Kokugikan Arena.Marcial knocked Darchinyan out with a right hook with 53 seconds left in the first round, as he entered the semifinal round.Marcial's win also assured the Philippines its first three-medal Olympic finish in 89 years or since the 1932 Los Angeles Olympiad, where Teofilo Ildefonso in swimming, Simeon Toribio in high jump, and Jose Villanueva in boxing won a bronze medal each for a total of three Philippine medals.
