The Delta variant of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) could have a "larger footprint" in the country, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

"Although we had limited capacity for whole genome sequencing, consecutive assays of samples have indicated that [the Delta variant affects] many regions in the country and many cities in the NCR (National Capital Region or Metro Manila), so this drives us to conclude that with the limited testing for whole genome sequencing, there could be a much larger footprint of the Delta variant in the country," WHO Country Representative Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe said during a televised Laging Handa briefing on Tuesday.
