ANY Los Angeles Lakers first day free agency signing that is not Timofey Mozgov, 4 years, $64 million is a good one. Nothing the Lakers do this year will be worse than that. Five years ago, that was the very first transaction that went public to open free agency, and it was downright embarrassing.

This year, and possibly, the next year as well, the Lakers will have multiple incarnations. The front office will have two extremes to choose from: shopping for undrafted talent who may be hidden gems (Horton-Tucker, Caruso), and checking which veterans are on a title chase and willing to grab the minimum.
