Every 30th of August, the National Heroes Day is celebrated in honor and in remembrance of unknown valiant Filipinos who sacrificed their lives as foundation for Philippine independence from foreign rule under Spain, the United States of America and Japan.

It was during the American colonial period when the Philippine Legislature, dominated by Filipino leaders who represented the national aspiration for independence, enacted the law through Act No. 3827 on October 28, 1931 declaring the last Sunday of August every year an official holiday.
