DEFENSE Secretary Delfin Lorenzana called for revisions to the 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT) between the Philippines and the United States to ensure "maximum possible cooperation" and enough interoperability of threats brought by the "gray zone" strategy of China.

Speaking at a virtual forum of the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Lorenzana lamented what he saw was the uneven treatment by Washington in providing military assistance to its non-treaty allies compared to Manila, its long-time defense partner.
