Today is Sept, 12, 2021, and there are only 18 days before the last day of voter registration. The Commission on Elections (Comelec), with votepilipinas.com, has provided accessible and verifiable information to keep Filipinos updated with the latest news concerning the upcoming 2022 elections. Since the 2010 automated elections, Comelec has adjusted its information drive to current trends. I remember how bloggers were invited in 2010 to observe how vote counting machines worked. Early this year, election officers of the Comelec resorted to the popular video sharing app, TikTok to encourage qualified voters to register in the May 2022 polls.

Last week, the Comelec and TikTok launched a partnership to expand voter information campaigns for 2022. Through the #RightInformationThisElection campaign, Comelec and TikTok announced it would give Filipino voters access to credible election information and resources through the official TikTok account of Comelec (https://www.tiktok.com/@comelec?lang=en). TikTok Head for Public Policy Kristoffer Rada vowed to work with Comelec to combat misinformation about the upcoming elections on its platform. "TikTok is filled with young users who may be first-time voters, and so getting them credible information for the 2022 elections, we believe, is critical for us to ensure they make an informed choice on who to vote for in 2022. We also take a very strong stance against misinformation," Rada elaborated. TikTok says taking down misinformation is just half of the solution and wants to "ensure voters have access to factual information."
