IT's important for San Miguel Corp. (SMC) to make the best choice for the Filipino people. Mr. Ramon Ang, the SMC president, should ask architect Felino A. Palafox Jr. a fair question: a) Does Arch. Palafox believe that a Pasig River Expressway (Parex) is the most desirable option for infrastructure on the Pasig River; and b) Can Arch. Palafox name three other cities around the world where he would advocate an expressway above the river as the best option and why?

In his September 28 statement regarding Parex — a six-lane elevated expressway that will run along the banks of the Pasig River, from Manila to C-6 Road in Taguig — Ang said the expressway project, which is to be fully funded by SMC, would bring multiple benefits to millions of Filipinos. He said SMC has been in discussions with Palafox, the architect and urban planner who heads the Palafox Architecture Group, to help them "do the project right." SMC in a separate statement said Palafox would be brought in to make Parex a "green and sustainable infrastructure."
