Paving the road for Sara

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, the daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte, has repeatedly said that she will not run for a national position in the next elections if her father, the President, runs for vice president.

She does not want to run if her father runs for vice president. This is a very convincing reason. Avoidance of a Duterte-Duterte tandem makes strong political sense. When President Duterte accepted the nomination of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan to run for vice president, Sara reiterated her decision not to seek the highest political office, but would, instead, run for reelection as mayor of Davao.
