I USUALLY write my columns a week before their actual appearance because I don't want to rush myself and compromise the quality of my output. I also ask several colleagues to read the draft and comment mainly on their historicity, not on the content itself (that is mine alone). I write my columns in advance to give my historian-friends time to read my work and give their constructive comments.
