Whenever Jomari Yllana is introduced as a "former actor" these days, that's an accurate fact. Now 45, the award-winning dramatic actor — who rose to fame as a member of the iconic '90s teen group, "Gwapings," alongside Mark Anthony Fernandez, Eric Fructuoso and Jao Mapa — has not set foot on a movie set, teleserye taping or even a commercial shoot since 2016.

Twenty-sixteen was when Jomari decided to completely immerse himself in public service and government work after garnering the highest number of votes for city councilor in Parañaque City. And for someone initially hesitant to pursue an elective position — which by law allows city council members to "engage in the private practice of their profession" concurrently — the decision to turn his back on his 25-year-old career at the time was, in a word, extreme.
