THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) was reminded to be non-partisan in the May 2022 elections, a spokesman for the military said on Thursday.

Col. Xerxes Trinidad, Philippine Army (PA) spokesman, in a phone interview said the reminder came from Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.

"Actually it's a guidance from the secretary of national defense and we have been reminded that the Armed Forces, particularly on the level of our commanding general, the Army remain non-partisan in this coming national election. It only means that the Army will always be fair and will secure everybody if needed and will not join in any activity that is considered political in nature," Trinidad said.

Trinidad warned that any military personnel found violating the directive would be charged depending on the gravity of the offense and faces dismissal from service for conduct unbecoming an officer.
