After 20 months of closure, cinemas are finally reopening in the Philippines. Just in time, on November 10, Denis Villeneuve's much anticipated "Dune" can be viewed on the IMAX and screens bigger than your laptop.
This newest version of "Dune" is expansive, takes its time with world building, setting its mood, revealing bits of its politics and developing the characters. There are many beautiful shots showing the vastness of the desert planet, its dangers, all accompanied by a soundtrack with whispers, wailing chants, the sound of blowing sand and lots of percussion. The film is really made for consumption in as immersive a way as possible. You want it to swallow you like a Shai Hulud would a spice harvester. But in a pleasurable sense.
