THE private sector has a critical role to play in the climate change response. Globally, economic losses due to disasters are taking a toll on development. The losses will continue to escalate unless climate adaptation becomes integral to national development plans and business strategies.

Traditionally, private sector involvement has focused largely on response and relief. Businesses, however, have the potential to use core competencies to shape innovative and sustainable solutions and therefore play a vital role in building resilience.
