There is good news for maritime stakeholders as the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) discloses the plan to remove the onboard training (OBT) from the curriculum of the BS Marine Transportation and BS Marine Engineering (BSMarE) programs. For decades, maritime students have been struggling in getting berths for this OBT requirement to complete their baccalaureate program.
Only those who can join ships after finishing the 3-year academic lectures get to receive their diploma and the number of non-graduates swells year by year.
