THE Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) and Canada recently launched the Asean-Canada free trade agreement (ACANFTA) negotiations that is expected to benefit countries such as the Philippines, the Department of Trade and Industry announced on Thursday.

In a statement, the DTI said Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez joined other Trade ministers from Asean and Mary Ng, the Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development of Canada in announcing the launch of the negotiations at the 10th Asean Economic Ministers-Canada Consultation held via video conference on Nov. 17, 2021.
