OUT of the 18 barangay (villages) in El Nido, Palawan, 10 still do not have access to electricity. Also, only around 33 percent of households and businesses have access to a stable supply of power while the remaining percentage rely on generator sets and kerosene lamps.

To help address this problem, One Million Lights Philippines (OML PH), a nationally awarded, youth-led, nonprofit organization focusing on improving the quality of life of Filipinos through better lighting, partnered with the corporate social responsibility arm (CSR) of the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), One Meralco Foundation (OMF), to bring light and hope to residents in Barangay Bucana, Barangay Teneguiban and Barangay Bebeladan, three of the poorest coastal areas on the island, where some 600 families live without access to electricity.
