Groups slam mining firms' tax abuses

TAX justice and human rights activists are protesting the undue tax privileges given to mining corporations, and urged the government to work toward a progressive tax system for the Philippine mining sector.

In April this year, the government lifted the ban on issuing new mining licenses and continues to provide incentives to the extractive industry despite the huge profits it is making even under Covid-19 restrictions on most other economic activities.
