The Philippines hit a new record on Thursday — 34,021 new Covid-19 cases.

This eclipsed the 33,169 cases reported on January 10.

The Department of Health said the positivity rate remained high at 47.9 percent, with 78,866 tests reported by 305 laboratories, Seven were not able to submit their data.

The DoH said that 98 percent, or around 232,000 active cases, were mild or asymptomatic, while 298 were critical and 1,468 are were severe.

There were 4,694 new recoveries for a total of 2.8 million. The death toll rose to 52,736 with 82 additional fatalities.

The department said 58 percent of intensive care unit beds in the National Capital Region were occupied, as well as 54 percent of isolation beds and 66 percent of ward beds.
