FOLLOWING the Senate's failure to ratify the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement, Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez expressed optimism that the trade deal will be ratified this year.

In a statement on Thursday, Lopez said he understands that there are other important local bills that need to be acted upon, but he is hopeful that the Senate will eventually concur on RCEP's ratification when it resumes session this year.
