AFTER Tagbilaran City native Mark "Magnifico" Magsayo recently became the fourth Filipino world featherweight boxing champion, a number of Filipino boxers are also looking to make history this year.

On February 6, in Digos City, Davao del Sur, Rene Mark Cuarto of Zamboanga del Norte will make his first defense of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) minimumweight (108 lbs.) title against Albay native and former champion Pedro Taduran. This is the second meeting between the two. Cuarto hammered out a unanimous decision win over Taduran last year to end the latter's reign as IBF champ.
