LIFE insurer AIA Philippines is seeking thousands of its policyholders and beneficiaries who have yet to claim benefits such as policy maturities, reinstatements, claims, redemptions and even refunds.

It said in a statement on Tuesday that despite its best attempts to contact customers via registered mail, email, callouts and agents, a large proportion of them have still to be contacted.

In order to keep its promise, the insurance firm said it would bolster its efforts with a public awareness campaign pushing people to verify if they have any unclaimed benefits.

"We are making this campaign public in the hopes of reaching customers from many years ago — those who we have lost touch with amid changes in communications technology and who have bought their policies under our former brand, Philam Life," explained Geegee Lopez, AIA Philippines chief operating officer.

In August of last year, AIA Philam Life changed its name to AIA Philippines to match its operations with its parent company, AIA Group Ltd., which has a strong presence and dominance in Southeast Asia.

"We are doing this because we have a promise to fulfill — a promise that goes beyond passively responding when our customers make a claim. The promise of helping our customers live healthier, longer, better lives includes making sure these hard-earned benefits get to the intended recipients. We're asking for everyone's help in finding our customers or their beneficiaries so we can give them their benefits," she added.

Benefits go unclaimed for a variety of reasons, the company underscored. Most of the time, the insurer and insured have lost contact because the insured changed their contact information and neglected to notify their insurer, the insurer is unaware of the insured's death, or the beneficiaries can't be found or are unaware of the existence of the insurance policy.

AIA Philippines said it is taking a bolder, more aggressive approach to locating these clients in order to ensure that these benefits are finally enjoyed by individuals who are entitled to them.
