THE amount of bad loans in the Philippine banking sector reached P461 billion at the end of January this year, data released by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) showed on Tuesday.

Lenders' gross non-performing loans (NPLs) increased by 16.73 percent to P461.66 billion from P395.46 billion a year ago.
