PILAR, Abra: Brewing tensions in the compound of Vice Mayor Jaja Josefina Desuo peacefully ended late Wednesday afternoon after a series of negotiations initiated by officials of the Police Regional Office in the Cordillera Administrative Region succeeded in preventing a clash between the police personnel and allegedly armed bodyguards of the local official on Tuesday morning at Barangay Poblacion here.

The negotiations also resulted in the surrender of 12 former military personnel serving as the alleged bodyguards of the vice mayor and who submitted themselves to the custody of the Philippine Army for the conduct of a police investigation.
